Noel Whelan gave huge credit to Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier for his performance in last night’s win over Fulham.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side ended their horrid run of results in London by beating Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage in a Premier League fixture.
It means the Whites climbed to 11th in the league table with 39 points, while opponents Fulham stay 18th in the relegation positions.
Patrick Bamford and Raphinha, who have been two of Leeds’ outstanding individuals this season, were both on the scoresheet to help secure three points on the road.
But the Yorkshire club had to withstand plenty of Fulham chances. Fortunately, 21-year-old Leeds goalkeeper Meslier was in inspired form.
The £5million (Yorkshire Evening Post) shot-stopper couldn’t do anything about Joachim Andersen’s goal, but he did make a couple of outstanding saves to help contribute massively to the win.
One from Josh Maja in the first half, as well as another from Ivan Cavaleiro to save the blushes of teammate Pascal Struijk for his rare mistake.
Whelan claimed in his post-match analysis that Meslier is someone who looks like he’s maturing in net.
“It was a fantastic performance from him, and he really just looks like he’s maturing week in week out with every single game that goes by,” Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds.

TBR’s View:
If you consider that Meslier is aged just 21, it’s been an outstanding debut season from the Leeds youngster in the Premier League so far.
He’s the youngest regular first-choice goalkeeper in the division this campaign, and he’s earned nine league clean sheets.
There is still a bit of rawness to his game at times when it comes to his decision making, but his future looks extremely promising and he should only keep improving with more experience.
