Noel Whelan explains why he’s worried about Leeds midfielder

Noel Whelan has shared that Mateusz Klich is one Leeds United player right now that is “worrying” him because of his form.

Klich, 30, started on Monday night during Leeds’ 2-0 defeat away to West Ham in the Premier League.

But the central midfielder was withdrawn as a half-time substitute by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Klich is an all-action central midfielder with a high work-rate and someone that can make an impact in the final third, scoring two goals and setting up five assists in the league so far this season.

Unfortunately, the Poland international has had a noticeable dip in his performance levels in the past couple of months and his position has started to come under threat.

Whelan feels that he was quiet against West Ham, plus he’s a little disappointed by his overall form.

“It is worrying (Klich’s form) because you want to command that midfield area,” Whelan told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“Didn’t see much of him in the first half. There wasn’t too much coming from Mateusz Klich in ways of linking up play, getting on the ball, starting play off, getting tackles in. I don’t remember mentioning him too many times in that first 45 minutes.”

TBR’s View:

Klich isn’t playing with the same kind of zip right now that Leeds fans are so used to seeing.

It was difficult for him in the centre of the park against West Ham’s midfielders Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek, which is why ultimately he was taken off after just 45 minutes.

There is still time for him to recapture his early-season form and Leeds could desperately do with that happening, as they lack a box-to-box presence when he’s not performing.
