Noel Whelan gave huge praise to Leeds United’s Tyler Roberts after his weekend performance in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea.
It was just the third draw in the Premier League this season for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
The teams played out a stalemate in Saturday’s lunchtime fixture at Elland Road, with both defences coming out on top.
Leeds went into the match with four defeats from their previous five, but matched an opposition that are currently fourth in the league standings.
Marcelo Bielsa’s team are in mid-table and had a couple of chances at goal, with Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in strong form.
Whelan singled out Leeds youngster Roberts as one real impressive spark from the weekend.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder worked his socks off during the game, and moved up the pitch into a striker position following a Patrick Bamford injury in the first half.
“I think he was involved for 90 minutes… He looked a lot fitter, a lot stronger,” Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds.
“He was getting himself into good areas and not dwelling on the ball too much. He was releasing it at the right times, getting himself into areas where he can affect the game. Getting on the ball and bringing others into play.
“That was probably one of the better games I’ve seen him play.
“If he can keep that up and play like that each week and add a goal and assist, then he’ll completely change my mind. That is the sort of performance I want to see from him week in and week out.”

TRB’s View:
Roberts is currently enjoying his best run in the team, starting five consecutive matches for the Yorkshire giants.
The Welsh attacker saw one curled effort denied by a fingertip save from Mendy, as he went so close to scoring his first goal of the season.
It didn’t quite happen for him in front of goal and he’s still trying to find a cutting edge in the top flight, but it looks like right now he’s got the trust of Bielsa.
