Newcastle United hero Nobby Solano believes Joelinton’s struggles aren’t solely down to him, and that his teammates are letting him down.
The Brazilian is still having difficulties in English football following his club-record £40 million move (BBC Sport) from Hoffenheim last summer.
He’s been given plenty of chances by Steve Bruce, but has returned just three goals this season, and fans are wondering if he needs time or he simply isn’t cut out for the Premier League.
In the eyes for Solano, Joelinton is struggling but he isn’t getting good enough supply.
He said (Chronicle): “This guy when I watch him is always up there by himself looking lonely.
“He’s getting nothing but long balls, that’s so hard for him.
“These days most teams play with one man up there and it is tough for them.
“Who is the man supplying him?”
In recent weeks, Newcastle have been without chief midfield orchestrator Jonjo Shelvey, who has been nursing a hamstring injury.
Back in training now, he is a source of creativity for the Magpies and is likely the best person supply Joelinton.
TBR’s view – Joelinton not solely responsible for poor form
Solano is right to question the supply line to Joelinton.
Of course the South American has been quite disappointing and has missed a lot of chances.
But quite often there are weekends where he simply doesn’t get good supply, like Solano suggests.
He’s had his critics, but the South American can probably feel a little hard done by.
