‘No thanks’: Some Everton fans react to links with Newcastle 23-year-old
Everton transfer links suggest Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is a potential target this summer for them – and some Toffees fans on Twitter have reacted negatively to the transfer speculation.
According to The Athletic, Everton are monitoring the situation of the 23-year-old at Premier League rivals Newcastle.
The report explains Toffees manager Rafael Benitez may want the opportunity to work with the midfielder again after the pair were together at St James’ Park.
Longstaff, who’s a local lad from the Newcastle academy, has played 69 first-team games for his boyhood club.
The central midfielder has put in a few memorable individual displays in the last couple of year to get himself known.
However, last season was underwhelming.
The Englishman only played in 22 Premier League games during the last campaign. Also, he’s finding it difficult under current Magpies boss Steve Bruce to find his best form.
Longstaff rumour irritates Everton fans
A selection of Everton supporters on social media are not confident about the Longstaff transfer rumour.
It’s not a dig against the Newcastle man, but the Toffees supporters are crying out for a couple of marquee signings to try propel them up the table.
Longstaff does have the potential to carve out a strong top-flight career with his energy, tackling and technique. But, he’s in desperate need of some consistency.
