Newcastle United are being linked with Gael Kakuta – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have reacted extremely negatively to the transfer speculation.
Kakuta, 29, is a player who’s spent this season on loan at French top-flight club Lens from Amiens.
According to the Daily Mail, the ex-Chelsea player will be joining Lens on a permanent basis for £4.3million this summer after a deal was triggered in his loan clause.
The report states that the attacking midfielder is now being lined up though for a possible return to English football.
It is explained that Newcastle, Fulham and Watford have all been watching him this season, and a fee of £8.6million could be enough to prize hm away from Lens at the end of the season.
Despite making 16 first-team appearances, Kakuta never made a serious breakthrough at Stamford Bridge during his Chelsea career, and has made a name for himself elsewhere.
It’s been a strong individual campaign for him so far in Ligue 1, scoring 11 goals and setting up five assists across all competitions. He’s a versatile player who can slot in as a number 10 or an attacker further up the pitch.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media don’t believe he’s the right kind of target they should be looking at this summer, and want the club to look elsewhere.
A couple have compared him to Christian Atsu, who is a 29-year-old attacker at St James’ Park that has been frozen out of the first-team picture.
