‘No more excuses’: Some Arsenal fans want club to speed up reported pursuit of ‘unbelievable’ 27-year-old

A number of Arsenal fans have been giving their thoughts on Twitter about Atletico Madrid’s Champions League elimination, and what it could mean regarding the future of reported Gunners target Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international midfielder has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months now and is said to be one of the number one targets for Mikel Arteta this summer.

“I’d seen him play for Atletico but I didn’t realise how good he is,” Atletico right-back Kieran Trippier told the Beautiful Game podcast in June.

“He’s unbelievable, his physicality, how he breaks up play. Technically he’s got everything.”

Speculation linking Partey to the Emirates Stadium gathered pace in April when his father told Tru FM’s Sports World Show – as transcribed by Football London – that both parties had been in contact about a possible switch to London.

More recently, however, talks between the two clubs appeared to have hit a stumbling block – a report in Metro claimed that Arsenal were unwilling to activate Partey’s £45million release clause and Atletico will not sell for less.

The outlet reported that the Gunners have attempted to offer the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Alexandre Lacazette in a part-exchange deal but Atletico have so far refused, while Juventus are now said to also be in the race.

Nonetheless, with Atletico now exiting the Champions League following a 2-1 loss against RB Leipzig, some Arsenal fans hope that things will now speed up regarding Partey’s future – to the Gunners’ benefit.
