‘He’s not serious’, ‘Sell him asap’: Some Liverpool fans react as Euro 2020 star comments on ‘great player’

Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Willi Orban told Goal that Naby Keita has ‘to feel completely comfortable’ to operate at his best.

Orban played alongside Keita for two years at RB Leipzig before the Guinea midfielder moved to Liverpool. The Reds paid £48million (BBC) after triggering the 26-year-old’s release clause, but are yet to see him at his best.

The sum was a club-record for Liverpool at the time but has so far only led to 76 appearances. Keita has also missed 275 days through various injuries, with the 38-cap international yet to enjoy an injury-free season.

Orban has not been surprised to see Keita struggle to stay available for Liverpool since moving to Anfield. The Hungarian, set for a big role at Euro 2020, recalls how his former teammate needed special treatment at Leipzig due to his emotional nature.

“Naby is a very sensitive guy, who has to feel completely comfortable in his environment in order to perform well,” Orban said. “You have to take special care of him, talk to him a lot.

“He needed breaks from time to time when he was with us. The Premier League is certainly even more demanding in this regard.”

Liverpool fans react to Orban’s comments on Keita

Orban’s comments on Keita needing special treatment have not sat well with all Liverpool fans reacting on social media. That’s because some believe enough is enough and that their club must look to offload the midfielder this summer.

Others also reflected on how Keita needed breaks from time to time is a stark contrast to Georginio Wijnaldum. Liverpool allowed the Dutchman to leave Anfield and join PSG as a free agent this month, despite playing in all 38 Premier League games last season.

Keita enjoyed his most minutes in a single top-flight season at Liverpool during his debut campaign in 2018/19 with 1,393. He then played 813 minutes over 18 games the following term, before just 521 minutes over 10 outings last season.

Keita had offered himself to Atletico Madrid in May but the La Liga outfit were not as keen, per AS. The Guinea international has two years remaining on his £120,000-per-week contract.
