No excuses for Tottenham in Amsterdam after unbelievable Liverpool comeback

Tottenham Hotspur take on Ajax tonight in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final encounter.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are 1-0 down from the first leg thanks to a Donny van de Beek goal, and must beat their opponents at the Amsterdam Arena if they are to meet Liverpool in the final.

Spurs have Heung-min Son back available for selection after missing the home leg through suspension, but Harry Kane remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

The motivation is now absolute there for Tottenham, with Liverpool having sensationally booked their place in the final at the expense of Barcelona, who were 3-0 up after the first leg.

TBR’s view

Tottenham may be a goal down but arguably Liverpool’s incredible result changes the complexion of tonight’s game.

Liverpool winning 4-0 against Barca surely must inspire them to produce a turnaround of their own.

There are no excuses for Tottenham, who have a smaller deficit to overcome than that of their English rivals.

Liverpool also had Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino out and lost Andy Robertson to injury at half time, so the lack of Kane in attack will not wash.
