Harry Redknapp says £60m Premier League player would turn down Tottenham transfer if offered

Tottenham might have spent big on signing Dominic Solanke this summer but Harry Redknapp believes one of the world’s top forwards wouldn’t join them right now.

Solanke was the club-record signing for Tottenham in the summer as they splashed north of £60m to bring him in from Bournemouth.

The former Chelsea man appeared as a key target after a fine season for the Cherries last season.

However, Solanke was not the only striker linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer.

Reports in the summer suggested that Tottenham had made a bid for Newcastle striker, Alexander Isak.

Isak was also wanted by Arsenal, but in the end, remained with Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

But according to former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, there’s little reason for Isak to consider Spurs right now.

Harry Redknapp makes claim about Alexander Isak joining Tottenham

Speaking to Tony Cascarino on TalkSPORT about the situation around Isak and potentially signing for Tottenham, former Spurs boss Redknapp suggested that Isak might be looking for a bigger move.

“But it’s a difficult one, Tony, I suppose. Newcastle is also a big club. They are a massive club, so I suppose really, no disrespect, there’s not a lot between the two teams over the last couple of years,” Redknapp said.

“I would think if he was going, maybe, he is looking to go to a team that certainly would have a big chance of winning.

“I am a big fan of Isak. He is a fantastic striker.”

Tottenham need Champions League football

Isak has started the season in good form for Newcastle and the Magpies are believed to value him at over the £100m mark – they paid £60m – if he is ever to be sold.

Come next summer, Isak will no doubt be linked with a move away from the Mags again.

However, as Redknapp says here, a move to Tottenham – currently – is not much of a step up.

Tottenham, then, have simply got to get into the top four if they are to ever really attract the very top players to the club.
