'No discipline': Leeds star posts on Instagram after win over Crystal Palace
Raphinha has posted on Instagram after the Leeds United star scored an injury-time penalty to down Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Tuesday.
Leeds came into the match having just won two of their opening 13 Premier League matches this season. But they made it three with a late 1-0 victory.
Christian Benteke, Rodrigo and plenty more had chances to break the deadlock. Eventually, Leeds won a penalty deep into injury time.
Raphinha’s corner proved too hot to handle for the Palace defence. Liam Cooper challenged Marc Guehi for the ball, and it struck the player’s arm.
Following a VAR check, Leeds were awarded a penalty which Michael Owen said after the match was the right decision. Raphinha scored, coolly.
With the best part of 40,000 watching on nervously, the Brazilian jogged up, stuttered and scored past Vicente Guaita. He posted on Instagram.
His post is translated as: “Without motivation there is no sacrifice, without sacrifice there is no discipline and without discipline, there is no success.”
Raphinha shines for Leeds: The start of a change in fortunes?
It has been a good few days for Leeds. Not only have they got a win, but it comes after a couple of decent draws against Brighton and Leicester.
On Monday, they also welcomed back two crucial members of the side in the form of last season’s top scorer Patrick Bamford, and Luke Ayling.
Bamford played 90 minutes for the 23’s, who lost to Manchester City. Ayling got 45 – and now the team have got a win, pushing them up to 15th.
With Leeds hosting Brentford on Saturday at Elland Road, it could be the start of a better run of form. Raphinha will be central to that.
