One of Leeds United’s big tasks this summer will not only be improving their current squad but also keeping it together. Failure to win promotion is likely to see Premier League clubs circling some of their better players.
Kemar Roofe is likely to be one such player. The 26-year-old scored 15 goals in 34 games last season and saw his name tentatively linked with clubs throughout the campaign.

Roofe is also about to enter the final year of his contract at Elland Road. Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay has told the Inside Elland Road podcast (20/05/2019; 41:00) that Leeds have not yet offered Roofe a new deal.
“State of play with Roofe is that he hasn’t had a contract offer, not a formal one. There was a plan to speak to him last October and a plan to speak to him after the January transfer window. But at this stage, I think they are quite far apart on initial conversations.
“Roofe’s on a fairly low-level deal by Championship standards because he was signed in 2016 from Oxford…He’s a long way below someone like Bamford and could, quite honestly, make a fair argument for having parity with Bamford, which would be a fairly major pay-rise.”
It appears Roofe is still on the initial deal he signed with the club after joining from then League Two side Oxford United. So Roofe is likely to be on a wage well below his standing. After outperforming Bamford, Roofe will undoubtedly want to match the salary of his striking competition.
Leeds United will hopefully have Roofe’s future on their agenda for the summer as a priority. The club will not want to be in a position come January where they have to cash in quickly, or indeed lose him for nothing next summer.
Hopefully, once the dust has settled on an eventful season, Leeds United will tie down their main goal-threat beyond the summer of 2020.
