Tottenham Hotspur are now considered very likely to seek a deal for former Celtic winger Jota in January as they target reinforcements.

Journalist Dean Jones was speaking to Give Me Sport and said the deal was now looking like a ‘no brainer’.

Ange Postecoglou worked with Jota whilst in Scotland and would seemingly jump at the chance to reunite with the former Celtic man.

Jones mentioned that Spurs won’t just make knee-jerk signings in January despite the players they’ve lost recently – stating signings will still be methodically processed.

However, he believed all was in place for Jota to make a move to North London.

Jones said: “We still have to consider that Tottenham aren’t going to just sign players based on a hunch because that’s not the way they’re going to do things anymore.

“Your stats have to fit, specifically, with the vision of the future. But I think Jota would probably do that anyway, in terms of what Tottenham are going to be looking for from a player in that position.

“I think it is a bit of a no-brainer that Tottenham try to get this deal done because even the terms of it might be quite suitable.”

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou could now move for former Celtic winger Jota

Of course, further options on the wing are now needed for Postecoglou in the near future.

Bryan Gil started a rare Premier League game against Aston Villa yesterday, with Dejan Kulusevski dropping into a deeper role.

However, it remains to be seen where Spurs consider their most necessary recruitment.

The centre-back position is now proving a huge issue beyond Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

The latter is still missing for one more game owing to suspension – a trip to the Etihad.

And given Eric Dier now seems to have had a further clear signal over his Tottenham future from Postecoglou, fresh faces are needed.

Spurs are still very early in their squad building under Ange, but issues are now pressing more so than expected given recent events.

And a move for Postecoglou’s former Celtic winger Jota, would now look like an excellent start in January.

A player who is having a difficult time in Saudi Arabia, and would look like a logical move at around £25m.
