The connection between Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United has grown ever since Marcelo Bielsa took to the Leeds dugout two years ago – and now, the Whites have got to take advantage in the transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of Bielsa, with the latter having signed a teenage Pochettino at Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys – even travelling to Pochettino’s parents house in the night to check the young defender’s legs.
He gave Pochettino plenty of Argentina caps, and then, pointers in terms of management. It was that relationship that many believed was behind Tottenham signing Jack Clarke from Leeds last summer.
Though Pochettino has gone, the connection between Leeds and Spurs remains. Juan Foyth has been repeatedly linked with Leeds this season – but another Spurs player has got to have jumped onto Leeds radar.
That is, in the form of Ryan Sessegnon. The Telegraph claims Tottenham are willing to sanction the loan exit of the England Under-21 international, with the 20-year-old yet to play a single minute since the restart.
Sessegnon, a £25million (BBC) signing from Fulham last summer, has managed just 12 Spurs appearances this season. But given his age, work rate, pace and versatility – surely he is the perfect Bielsa player.
Able to offer cover on the left flank or at left-back, Sessegnon would bring a real attacking threat to Bielsa’s Leeds. If they get promoted, a loan move for Sessegnon – using the connection between Spurs and Leeds – is a no-brainer.
