Nikola Milenkovic subject of £30m bid and Tottenham Hotspur should match that price

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a host of young central defenders at present. One of the more recent names added to that list was Serbian international Nikola Milenkovic. The Mirror is reporting both Spurs and Manchester United as being interested in his services this summer.

The 20-year-old Serbia international has been in fine form since joining Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade in 2017. Tottenham, who have also been linked with Ajax’s Matthijs De Ligt, Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and Sampdoria’s Joachim Anderson, will now hope to win the battle for his signature.

But the transfer fee bar has already been set pretty high.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Juventus have made a £30 million offer to sign the player in January. Any deal would likely see the defender loaned back to Fiorentina until the end of the season.

So should Spurs be willing to pay that fee for such a young defender, with no experience in the Premier League?

In the current market, the answer is 100 per cent a yes. In 2017 Tottenham paid a reported £42 million, a club record, to sign Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez.

He had played at a lower level than Milenkovic in Dutch football and Tottenham saw the ability he has. The young Colombian has some way to go before being the finished article. However, it is clear Tottenham have a long-term talent on their hands.

In Milenkovic, they could easily have the same … and for less.
