Heidenheim midfielder Niklas Dorsch responded when asked about a potential move to Celtic by German newspaper Bild, and the youngster has responded by stating he would like to remain in his home country.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Dorsch recently, with the Scottish Sun claiming the 21-year-old is a target for the Scottish champions and the Hoops can land the Germany Under-21 international for a bargain £3.2million – due to a clause.

Dorsch has helped propel his side into fourth in Germany’s second tier, starring from the base of their midfielder. He has helped them keep seven clean sheets in 16 league games, conceding just 14 times. Dorsch has even scored once.

Asked about a potential move to Celtic or Hamburger SV, Dorsch responded by stating that he wants to remain in Germany and aim for a move to the Bundesliga – rather than leaving his home country, thus ruling out a move to Scotland.

“For young players, the Bundesliga should always be the first goal. But I have time, that will not be an issue until the summer,” Dorsch said, which suggests will see him remain at Heidenheim until the end of the season.

TBR’s view – Do Celtic need a player like Dorsch?

Scott Brown arguably remains Celtic’s most important player and continues to shine in the middle of the park – ageing like a fine wine. But he is 35 next June, and back-up is required.

Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham are the immediate replacements, while Nir Bitton is offering cover in both midfield and defence. But McGregor is better used slightly advanced – as is Ntcham.

Bringing in a new holding midfielder is important, but with Brown’s lack of injuries and continued fitness, there seems to be no rush.
