Nikica Jelavic applauds David Moyes as 'one of the best'
Nikica Jelavic believes David Moyes is ‘one of the best’ coaches he’s ever worked with. The former West Ham, Rangers and Everton forward only holds one coach in higher regard.
Nikica Jelavic is coming to the end of his career now but he certainly made a name for himself in the UK. His form with Rangers was magnificent, while he enjoyed a wonderful spell with Everton.
Moves to Hull City and West Ham didn’t quite work out as well but Jelavic had his moments in Britain. And looking back, he sees two Scottish managers as the best he ever worked under.
First and foremost is Walter Smith, the legendary Rangers boss. But Jelavic also holds David Moyes in very high regard.
Jelavic on Moyes
“Along with Walter Smith, Moyes is one of my favourite and best coaches in my career,” Jelavic told Croatian outlet Večernji.
“You know that in England club managers have their many assistants who prepare and do training, but Moyes did it all himself. He’s a coach who liked to have everything under control. He worked a lot with the players.”
Moyes lost a lot of his positive reputation after leaving Everton but it does seem as though he’s earning it back. His current West Ham side is quite comfortably the best he’s had since Goodison.
It’s probably no coincidence, then, that it’s also the club where he’s spent the most time. Jelavic makes it clear that Moyes wants to control things and he wants to build relationships with players. That takes a while to build but the more time you give him, the more success you should reap.
West Ham are certainly seeing that right now. And as he continues to build relationships and stamp himself on the team, Moyes could still take this team further yet.
