'Arteta wants him to slow down': Nigel Winterburn thinks 'incredible' Arsenal player can be even better

Former Arsenal defender, Nigel Winterburn, has lavished praise on Gabriel Martinelli but insisted he can be even better in front of goal.

The impressive young Brazilian forward has made a fine start to the new season and scored once again yesterday in the 4-2 win over Leicester City.

Playing off the left of the attacking quartet, Martinelli is keeping a number of other quality players out of the XI. And according to Nigel Winterburn, Martinelli can be even better this season if he continues to add goals to his game.

“The one thing I would say about Martinelli is he’s high energy. His individual ability is incredible. But I just think at times Arteta wants him just to slow down and relax for the final finish.”

“The one thing this boy needs is more goals. So if he gets more goals, then his level of performance is just going to go higher and higher. He excites the Arsenal supporters with what he can do. You just say give me 12 goals a season, that’s what you want,” Winterburn said on Stadium Astro.

Martinelli is proving to be quite the bargain signing for Arsenal. They paid a nominal fee to bring him over from South America and after some patience and unfortunate injury knocks, the Gunners are now reaping the rewards.

TBR’s View: Martinelli Brilliant For Arsenal Fans

Winterburn uses words like ‘incredible’ and ‘high energy’ in his description of Martinelli and they are more than fair reflections of a young player who is flying right now.

Martinelli can go on to become a superb player for Arsenal this season. His speed, energy, and willingness to impress and do well is infectious and it’s so obvious the Arsenal fans love him.

The goals are coming as well, so if he can remain in good form then Arsenal fans could be in for a treat this term.
