Nigel de Jong has told BeIN Sports that Manchester City starlet Phil Foden was “showing off” with his goal after a sparkling performance in his side’s 4-1 away win over Liverpool at Anfield – in which he scored and laid on an assist.

Foden, 20, was the star of the show as City put down a huge marker in their pursuit of the Premier League title. The England international scored the pick of the five goals, and laid on an assist for Ilkay Gundogan’s second.

Gundogan missed a penalty but did open the scoring after Foden’s shot was parried. Mo Salah equalised, but City scored three times in 10 minutes – Gundogan getting his second thanks to Foden, and then Raheem Sterling after Bernardo Silva’s chip.

Foden made it four with a powerful effort after cutting inside, taking his tally to double digits in all competitions – having a hand in 16 during 28 outings. Ex-City midfielder de Jong raved about City’s academy product, after the match.

“He’s so slippery with that left foot,” de Jong said. “He’s an amazing talent. He’s fantastic, unbelievable. When he comes one-on-one, you know he’s going to use his left but he still goes past you.

“The way he is playing right now, he’s full of confidence. Guardiola has treated him well, he’s just showing off – and that was proven in his goal. What a screamer, absolute rocket of a goal.”

TBR’s view – Is it City’s title to now lose?

Without a doubt. Manchester City are 10 ahead of Liverpool, and five ahead of Manchester United with a game in hand. They are cruising to the Premier League title, while also reaching the Carabao Cup final. They are also in Europe, and the FA Cup.

They are hitting the right tune, at the right time. Europe is about to return, they face Swansea on Wednesday night in the FA Cup and take on a stuttering Spurs in the Carabao Cup. Not only are City in the driving seat for the title, but they could add to it.
