Nigel de Jong has delivered a passionate rant on BeIN Sports regarding Newcastle United and the future of current manager Steve Bruce following Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Brighton – and Ryan Taylor has responded on Twitter.
The Toon took a worrying step towards relegation after a 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Brighton, who are now four points clear of Newcastle in 16th place. Bruce’s side sit two points ahead of 18th-placed Fulham, with a game in hand.
But Newcastle should be worried. A lack of form, belief of any goalscoring threat is compounded by injuries to key players Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron adn Callum Wilson – while their run-in is harder than most Premier League sides.
They face Tottenham, West Ham, Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Manchester City in six of their remaining nine outings. De Jong thinks they need to replace Bruce for the last fixtures, questioning the manager’s body language. Taylor replied.

“If I look at this team, the body language of Steve Bruce – this team has gone,” de Jong said. “There is no confidence, no chemistry between the coach and the players. We have all been in situations with a coach who is on the brink, on the way out.
“Seeing this from Newcastle today, it is time to move on. If I’m Newcastle, you have nine games left – 27 points, you only need three games to win in order to be clear. It is not going to happen with Steve Bruce. You don’t have the same desire or mentality.
“He’s not going to make any difference in attack. So, get somebody in, right now. Give Steve Bruce his money and thank him for his job but they need to move on – there is a club to save. It is about finding the right man, otherwise it is going to be a disaster.”
TBR’s view – Who is out there that can save Newcastle now?
Realistically, no manager that is currently employed is going to risk the warmth of their current contract to join Newcastle in what is a perilious situation. That means Mike Ashley will have to look at out-of-work managers.
There’s plenty of big names. Those with Premier League experience include Frank Lampard, Marco Silva, Mark Hughes, Maurizio Sarri, Andre Villas-Boas, Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder and more. Patrick Vieira could also be an option.
Regardless of who could potentially arrive should Bruce get the sack, what is clear is that Newcastle need a change and unfortunately, they need the bounce of a new manager. Bruce needs to go.
