Neymar raves about Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk

In an interview with DAZN, Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has heaped praise on Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Brazilian is up there with the best attackers in world football. He has the ability to take on most defenders in the world and make them look silly, but it’s not always easy, especially when he’s up against someone like Van Dijk.

Neymar sat down for a quick chat with DAZN Canada this week and he was asked about his opinion on a number of world-class footballers.

One such player was Liverpool star Van Dijk, and the Brazilian raved about him.

Neymar said: “Playing against Van Dijk is tough because as a centre-back, he’s so strong and intelligent.

“He knows when it’s the right time to close you down and when to go in for a tackle. That makes it harder.

“He’s intelligent. It’s harder to play against intelligent centre-backs. They don’t make mistakes.”

Van Dijk has struggled

Neymar’s comments on Van Dijk are spot on when you think of the Dutchman’s first three-and-a-half years at Liverpool. However, since the start of this season, things have been very different.

Van Dijk has looked nothing like his usual self this term. He was bullied by Aleksandar Mitrovic in the first game of the season against Fulham, while he really struggled against Napoli’s forwards in Liverpool’s most-recent fixture in the Champions League.

The 31-year-old has been really poor, and as a result, his club have had a shocking start to the campaign as well.

However, Van Dijk is a world-class player, and we expect him to get back to his best in the very near future.
