Newcastle United fans can expect a second January signing “soon”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Magpies look set to make Kieran Trippier their first signing of the PIF era.

The 31-year-old is reportedly at Newcastle’s training ground, undergoing a medical.

According to 90Min, the Magpies have agreed to pay Atletico Madrid an initial £12m to land Trippier.

Add-ons will reportedly take the fee up to the £15m mark.

In addition, the 31-year-old will become the highest-paid player in the club’s history, added the report.

It looks as though the next step on the Trippier transfer front will be an official club announcement.

However, the England international is likely to be just the first of several new arrivals at St James’ Park.

Newcastle boast a sizeable transfer kitty in wake of their takeover, and need to strengthen their ranks.

With the Magpies currently battling against relegation, there’s likely to be much more transfer activity.

On Wednesday, Romano shared a Twitter update about Lucas Digne.

He claimed the Everton player “is not going to Newcastle despite rumours. Not even an option. No way.”

But when a fan asked Romano about more Newcastle transfer news, this is what the Italian wrote in response:

More than 1,700 likes at the time of writing – clearly Romano’s comments went down a treat with the Toon Army.

That said, Romano didn’t specify who it could be.

Nonetheless, it’s exciting that Newcastle fans seemingly won’t have to wait long for a second newcomer.
