Newcastle United have enquired about the availability of Matias Almeyda in their search for their next manager, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.
The Magpies announced on Wednesday that Steve Bruce has left the club. It comes after a turbulent spell on Tyneside for the 60-year-old.

A number of names have been linked with the post since the club came under new ownership.
Tuttomercatoweb lists Steven Gerrard, Roberto Martinez and Unai Emery as contenders. Meanwhile, they hint that Paulo Fonseca is leading the race for the position.
But the report also claims that Newcastle have checked on Almeyda and enquired about his availability. The 47-year-old is the current coach of San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer.

It is noted that Almeyda – who won 40 caps for Argentina as a player – would like to work in a more competitive league.
Next Newcastle manager: Almeyda appointment would be huge gamble
He is yet to manage in Europe. But he does have a lot of experience, working in Argentina, Mexico and now the US.
In that time, he has overseen 161 wins in 389 games. And he has won a handful of trophies across those spells.
Almeyda also experienced playing in Europe during his career. He played for the likes of Sevilla, Lazio and Inter Milan.
But it would appear to be a huge gamble to turn to Almeyda as Bruce’s replacement. Newcastle find themselves in a relegation battle this season.
Other names in the frame arguably have much more impressive managerial CVs right now. So it would be a huge surprise if the Magpies turned to Almeyda as their next manager.
