Next Everton manager: Fans react to Martinez links
A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Daily Mirror claiming that Roberto Martinez is on their radar as they continue their search for their next manager.
The Toffees are getting their search underway following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure for Real Madrid earlier this week.
A host of names have already been linked with the post, including Frank Lampard, David Moyes and Eddie Howe.
But the Daily Mirror reports that Martinez is also a target.
Of course, he is a well-known figure amongst the Goodison Park faithful having spent around three years on Merseyside earlier in his career.
His tenure was incredibly mixed. Everton finished fifth in his first season. But their form took a sharp downturn from there.
And with that in mind, it is little surprise that the links have divided some of the Toffees fans on social media.
Admittedly, there are plenty who do not want Martinez back. The frustrations from those last two years continues to linger.
Everton would also have to factor in Euro 2020. Belgium doing well would presumably prevent Martinez taking charge for some time yet.
‘I’d genuinely take Martinez back’: Everton fans divided as Toffees search for next manager
However, others feel that Martinez returning would be a brilliant move following Ancelotti’s departure.
Everton look to be in a stronger position off the field right now. And if Martinez can recapture the magic of that first year, he could be an inspired option.
With that in mind, here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reports…
Martinez with a budget!! Thats what i want.
Some sexy football, some passion and a bit of soul in the club.
I think he could do a good job with a decent transfer kitty.

Unpopular opinion but bring Roberto Martinez back! Very passionate about the club and also, with a better backline than his first spell here, I really believe he can do something. Who agrees?

I’ve just muted the word Martinez
I’m not going through that again 😂

@VinnOConnor reporting Martinez has unfinished business at Everton on sky then. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing him back here. He’s worked with some of the best players in the world with Belgium and has them number 1 in the world.

I want Martinez, but think it’s just terrible timing with the Euros so close. His first season was the most enjoyable football everton have played in my lifetime.
