When Celtic signed Kundai Benyu last summer they appeared to have got their hands on an excellent young talent. His performances on loan at Aldershot Town had fans at former club Ipswich Town excited for a potentially successful development at Portman Road.
But the youngster decided Glasgow was the best next step in his development and moved on.
Soon enough the young Zimbabwe international had done enough to earn first-team minutes at Parkhead. He featured in the Champions League qualifiers with Linfield and Rosenborg and Premiership and League cup outings against Kilmarnock.
“He’s been very good. He’s surprised me to be honest. We knew he was a good player. You see what we’re trying to build here in terms of players being technically gifted.
“But they have to have good mobility and good physicality. And he has that. He’s played with a nice little edge, he’s competitive. And he’s got a confidence.”
Fans at Celtic were very excited about the talented midfielder and felt the club had a gem.
But fast forward a year and Benyu appears to be nowhere near the first-team.

The talented youngster has not been included in the club’s Europa League squad this week and has dropped down the pecking order dramatically.
He had an unsuccessful loan spell at English club Oldham Athletic last season, which may have hindered his development.
Last summer Brendan Rodgers was singing his praises as a potential first-teamer. Now, it appears he is completely off the radar.
