Newcastle will now submit official bid for 'one of Europe’s top attacking prospects' - Sky journalist
Newcastle United are going to make a bid for Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos, journalist Pedro Sepulveda has told Sky Sports News.
The Magpies are reportedly looking to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the transfer window’s closure.
At present, Eddie Howe has just Callum Wilson and Chris Wood as options at centre-forward.
Newcastle tried to bring Hugo Ekitike to St James’ Park, but he opted for Paris Saint-Germain instead.
The Magpies were also linked with Benjamin Sesko before he signed for RB Leipzig earlier this week.
Now, Sepulveda has provided some more information on Newcastle’s pursuit of Ramos.
“Newcastle are going to make an official offer above €30m (around £25m) in the next days for Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos,” he told Sky Sports News.
“The information I have is that Benfica coach Roger Schmidt prefers another striker for the starting X.
“And if Benfica receive a good offer where they can reinvest that money in another striker, we can have a deal here.
“Benfica will never sell him under €30m. This deal will have some add-ons.”
Ramos is an ‘exciting forward rated as one of Europe’s top attacking prospects’, according to The Sun.
The 21-year-old burst onto the scene last season with eight goals and four assists from 46 games.
And this term, Ramos already has three goals and three assists from three games.
He has also impressed at international Under-21 level, with 14 goals in just 18 games for Portugal’s U21s.
Ramos seems to tick all the boxes for Howe – talented, prolific, young, and seemingly available at a relatively low price.
