Newcastle United are ramping up their January plans and could now make a move for upcoming striker, El Bilal Toure, during the transfer window.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that the Magpies are keen on landing Toure. Their report states that Newcastle are looking to bring in Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. However, alongside any deal for Kamara, it’s claimed that Toure is also being looked at.

Despite scoring just a single goal this season, the Mali international is regarded as one of the game’s best emerging talents. That thought process was cemented this year when he was named on the list of Golden Boy nominees.

Toure, 20, is apparently open to leaving his current club, Stade Reims. In fact, it was only in the summer when Toure was actively seeking a way out. Further, he even refused to train at one point.

Newcastle are expected to back Eddie Howe in the market. PIF are looking to give Howe the best chance at Premier League survival, and new players are needed. Despite scoring just once for Reims this term, Toure could well be seen as a long-term project for the Magpies.

TBR’s View: Bilal Toure To Newcastle Will Not Help Eddie Howe Now

In the short-term, there seems little point in bringing in a striker who has scored just once. Newcastle need players who are going to hit the ground running and help them survive this season.

In the longer term, it might be a smart play. And ultimately, if PIF want to follow the blueprint set by City and others, then investing in the future is going to be key.

The signing of Kamara is one that has immediate impact. But Newcastle fans shouldn’t get too excited over Toure just yet. He is very much a raw talent and not someone who is going to guarantee goals at Premier League level just yet.
