Report: Newcastle now set date for second signing after Trippier announcement
Newcastle United are continuing to plough on with making new signings and according to INews, want to bring a second new face into the club before they face Watford next week.
The Magpies face relegation rivals Watford on the 15th of this month. It’s a crucial fixture, and one Eddie Howe knows his side will need to win. Newcastle will hope to have Kieran Trippier available. The England right-back is set to be announced as early as this morning.
And according to Inews, Newcastle are hoping to strike their second deal of the window in the coming days.
A whole host of names are being linked with the club. As reported on TBR already, Diego Carlos is Eddie Howe’s main target at centre-back. The Brazilian is thought to be the subject of a new £40m bid this weekend. Attacking players, too, such as Eddie Nketiah and Dominic Solanke have also been linked.
Regardless of who it is, it seems PIF are determined to back Howe. The signing of Trippier is a statement of intent, as is the bid for Carlos. And if Howe can indeed have more than one new face to compete against Watford, then that simply improves their chances of taking three points.
TBR’s View: Newcastle Not Messing About In January
We all expected Newcastle to be busy but few will admit they expected such quick action from PIF. There seemed to be some concern about who would actually go after these players. However, it seems the club is getting along just fine.
The signing of Trippier is a smart one. Not too expensive in terms of fee, and a proven player at the very highest level. He should, in theory, bring a whole change in dynamic to the Newcastle dressing room.
If Diego Carlos is next through the door, then that’s two big, big signings. That gives the Magpies the foundation to build from and could well ensure they do have enough come the end of the month.
