Newcastle United look set to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window.

While the Magpies are improving under Eddie Howe, they’re still near the bottom of the Premier League table.

However, Newcastle’s sizeable war chest means they can certainly bring some high-calibre players to St James’ Park.

One player now being linked with the Magpies would considerably strengthen their front line.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle are eyeing Bayer Leverkusen and Czech Republic star Patrik Schick.

The Italian outlet claims the Magpies have put the 26-year-old top of their striker wishlist in January.

Schick is in red-hot form for his club right now, boasting 16 goals from just 14 Bundesliga games.

Only the iconic Robert Lewandowski is ahead of Schick in the German top-flight goalscoring charts.

In summer, Leverkusen reportedly slapped a £36million price tag on Schick (TMW).

The striker also won the Euro 2020 Goal of the Tournament award for his long-range strike against Scotland.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer waxed lyrical about Schick’s goal in The Athletic.

“If you look at it again, the ball falls kindly for him, with that big rebound taking it into his path,” he wrote.

“There are two covering defenders, one threatening to push him wide and the other making up ground through the middle.

“Is he aware of that? Can he be?

“The genius here is in the speed of thought, having the vision to look up with the ball in front of him and see the goalkeeper off his line and then to execute.”
