Newcastle want £12m man deemed 'the best CB' Ajax star has 'ever played with' - report
Newcastle United are in need of bolstering their ranks in the January transfer window.
The Magpies have a sizeable war chest following their long-awaited takeover.
Combined with their Premier League relegation battle and depleted ranks, they’re likely to be busy this month.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is eyeing four to six new recruits this month.
His wanted list reportedly includes two centre-backs, a right-back, a left-back, a midfielder and a striker.
Now, the Daily Mail has reported that Newcastle are eyeing a £12million-rated centre-back with impressive credentials.
The Magpies are reportedly eyeing Vitoria Guimaraes and Ghana defender Abdul Mumin.
As well as Newcastle, Leicester are apparently keen on the 23-year-old.
Mumin enters the final two years of his contract this summer.
The Daily Mail claims his club will listen to offers to avoid the prospect of him running his deal down.
The left-sided centre-half has played a key role for Vitoria this season. He has helped Guimaraes to within reach of the European places.
Now, Mumin appears set for a move to one of the continent’s top divisions ahead of next season, added the report.
Ghana teammate Mohammed Kudus, who plays for Ajax, rates Mumin very highly.
“He’s the best central defender I’ve ever played with,” Kudus told Ghana Soccernet in December 2020.
“He is committed to surpassing himself, determined to reach a competitive level, and he’s very keen on fulfilling all his dreams.
“I don’t see why he won’t be a hit in Portugal, he is mentally strong and has everything to be in the best leagues.”
