Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring Anthony Martial’s situation at Manchester United.

With the January transfer window now open, the Magpies finally have a chance to bolster their ranks.

Newcastle are in particular need of bringing new attacking players in.

Eddie Howe faces the prospect of being without top scorer Callum Wilson long-term.

According to the Daily Mail, the Newcastle boss wasn’t originally target Martial.

Howe reportedly wanted younger back-up options to Wilson.

However, the fear of the 29-year-old potentially being out long-term has apparently changed Newcastle’s thinking.

Meanwhile, Red Devils interim boss Ralf Rangnick said in December that Martial has asked to leave Old Trafford.

He “understands” the striker’s desire to depart, but has insisted any transfer must be right for the club.

Martial has started just twice in the Premier League this season.

As well as Newcastle, Barcelona are reportedly eyeing the 26-year-old, according to Sport.

The France international is believed to have a £33million price tag and has wages of £180,000-a-week.

Martial has often come for huge praise at the club.

His performance against Copenhagen in the summer of 2020 saw Owen Hargreaves sing his praises.

“Everyone’s got an opinion on Martial,” The Independent quotes him as saying.

“He’s a Ferrari. He just looked like a £100million player.”
