Newcastle United’s move for Benfica midfielder Rafa Silva is reportedly on hold, according to The Sun.
The report claims that the Magpies were hoping to sign the 26-year-old for £15 million, after bartering his price down from a previous £25 million valuation.
However, the deal is reportedly on hold as Newcastle were hopeful of seeing him play more regularly before deciding on making a bid. With the current football postponement that is not possible and Newcastle are therefore keeping the plans on hold.

Silva is, of course, something of a long-term Newcastle target.
Back in May 2019, it was claimed by the player’s agent that Newcastle United were keen on his services, as reported by The Chronicle.
Rafa Benitez was seemingly a fan of the player but his future at Newcastle was in question throughout the summer and the Spaniard left the club in June, heading to China with Dalian Professional.
So no deal happened for Rafa Silva, who had scored an impressive 21 goals in 44 games for the Eagles. But this season has been less fruitful for the forward. The 26-year-old has managed just nine goals in an injury impacted campaign which has led Newcastle to their lower estimate this summer.
