Newcastle United unlikely to pay £50m asking price for Burnley star Dwight McNeil
According to a report from Lancashire Live, Newcastle will not be paying the £50m+ asking price Burnley have set for star winger, Dwight McNeil.
McNeil is a man in demand heading into the summer following a hugely impressive season with the Clarets.
Newcastle, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace have all been credited with an in interest in the youngster.
However, it appears Newcastle won’t be the ones fronting the money for McNeil. The latest reports claim the Magpies have other priorities in the transfer market.
The likes of Philippe Coutinho and Luka Jovic have been heavily linked with moves to the northeast. Both those players would command a hefty fee, meaning Newcastle would need to be wary of FFP regulations.
And that, it is claimed, is the reason McNeil could well be staying put at Turf Moor this summer.
Meanwhile, McNeil could jump higher up the list when it comes to Manchester United. The Red Devils could be set for disappointment in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho, meaning a tricky winger could be on the agenda.
Boost for Burnley but don’t be surprised if Newcastle do move – TBR View
Newcastle will have to watch their spending to an extent but don’t be surprised if they do make a move for someone like McNeil.
The Burnley man is one of the most impressive young players around. Not landing him now means clubs like Newcastle run the risk of his price soaring further next summer.
While £50m might seem a lot now, in reality, it is peanuts for Newcastle’s new owners. Long-term, too, the signing of McNeil makes big sense.
Furthermore, the thought of Danny Rose and McNeil down the left side is something for Magpies fans to look forward too.
