‘Immense’: Newcastle United fans react to performance of Sean Longstaff

The Magpies were leading 1-0 thanks to Issac Hayden’s second-half goal but were forced to settle for a point.

Newcastle United were denied a massive victory in the Premier League last night as they drew 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Magpies conceded a Wily Boly goal deep into stoppage time and the dropped points could come back to hurt them.

On the face of things, however, it wasn’t a bad point for Rafa Benitez’s men, against a team that are ticking along nicely in the Premier League.

The result does leave Newcastle with lots of work to do in their quest for survival. Benitez currently sees his side sit 16th in the division, just one point above Southampton who occupy 18th.

The performance level will have impressed the Magpies’ boss at Molineux as his side were well in the contest for large parts.

Midfielder Sean Longstaff has burst onto the St. James’ Park scene this season and is looking better with each passing game.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan with Blackpool in League One, netting eight goals in 42 appearances for the Tangerines.

A lack of summer transfer activity at Newcastle has seen Benitez trust him in the first-team on occasions this season and he hasn’t disappointed.

Last night was his sixth game of the campaign and arguably his best performance.

Longstaff kept a star-studded Wolves midfield in check and laid claim to the Man of the Match award.

Following such a calm and composed performance, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to speak of their delight at the youngster.
