Newcastle United could make a real statement of intent this summer by completing the £12 million signing of Liverpool winger Ryan Kent.
Rafa Benitez is yet to pen a new deal at St James’ Park but if he does he will be tasked with adding younger players to his ranks, according to The Mirror.
Kent has been in fine form at Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds want to recoup £12 million for the 22-year-old and that could price the Gers out.
Such a fee would see Gerrard equal the club’s record transfer fee paid in 2000 for Tore Andre Flo from Chelsea (BBC Sport)
That seems unlikely and Kent could be in limbo.
This is where Newcastle should look to pounce and land the impressive winger.
Anfield academy graduate Kent has scored five goals and contributed nine assists for Rangers this season.
His arrival at Newcastle would see him fit the quota of signing young players with considerable sell-on value.

Not only that but he has shown at Ibrox that he can mix it with the men and the next step is a Premier League chance.
The reported fee might seem slightly steep for a player yet to make his English top-flight debut.
Benitez could be the perfect manager to get the very best out of Kent, whilst he would bolster Newcastle’s wide options no end.
