Newcastle United reportedly offered Pedro who is adored by Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Chelsea star.

Newcastle United are reportedly in the running for Chelsea attacker Pedro’s signature this summer. As reported by The Chronicle, the 32-year-old Spaniard has been offered to Newcastle as his contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer.

With Newcastle United on the verge of a multi-million-pound Saudi-backed takeover, it would appear the Magpies could be in a position where Pedro is now an affordable option. The Spanish winger is reportedly (Daily Mail) on £100,000-a-week with the Blues.

Pedro has been at Chelsea since 2015, helping the club win the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League during his time at the club. However, it could be suggested he is something of an underappreciated talent.

It is easy to forget about his excellence at Barcelona before heading to England. There, he won the Champions League three times and La Liga five times. Factor in his World Cup and European Champions medals with Spain and Pedro is one of the most illustrious names in football.

Lionel Messi always appreciated that. The pair have a strong bond and when Pedro was being increasingly linked with a move away from the Nou Camp in 2015, the Argentine spoke warmly of his team-mate, as reported by The Express.

“Personally I don’t know what his decision will be but we’re all with him and we’ll back him.

“We want the best for him given what he’s given the club – he deserves the best. I don’t know what he’ll decide but whatever he’ll have our support.”

At the same time, Andres Iniesta was also quoted by Business Insider lamenting the potential departure of his team-mate.

“It is a decision for him and what his heart feels.

“If he stays we will be delighted and if he leaves we have to respect that decision.”

When Pedro leaves Chelsea this summer, there will likely be less of a fuss from his current team-mates. But that should not hide the fact that the Spaniard is a sensational talent who has the respect form some of the best to ever play the game.

Newcastle United would be right to swoop.
