Back in November 2016 Newcastle United were being linked with a move for Sparta Rotterdam defender Rick van Drongelen. HITC Sport reported that the teenager was on the radar of Newcastle, who had been impressed with his performances in the Eredivisie at such a young age.
So this summer, should Newcastle consider swooping for him yet again?
When Newcastle wanted the defender before they were in the Championship. Now, being in the Premier League, they would have a far better chance of signing the centre-back.

Despite having played over 60 senior games Van Drongelen is still only 19-years-old and a tremendous talent for the future.
He did however leave Sparta last summer. The team he joined though may have to move him on just one year later. The teenager joined German side Hamburg last summer. The deal, reported by Die Welt to be worth around €3 million (£2.6 million) seemed a steal. Despite the teen signing a five-year deal however, he could be on his way out this summer.
Hamburg are looking certain to join FC Koln in relegation to 2. Bundesliga after a torrid campaign in the German top-flight. The Northern side, known as ‘The Dinosaur’ because of their top-flight longevity have come close to relegation before. This time however it seems they are doomed to second tier football.

Hamburg are also in serious financial trouble and will need to sell players in the summer if they are to be successful. Van Drongelen could easily be one of the players moved on if Newcastle can find the right price to do so.
A natural left-footer, he could bring balance to the centre-half position under Rafa Benitez. Considering the Dutchman’s young age, it is not inconceivable to believe he could be a long-term partner for captain Jamaal Lascelles.
Newcastle United were sweet on the teenager once before but missed out. Now they may be given a perfect second chance to sign him up.
