Newcastle United have signed Stefan O’Connor – months after releasing him.
O’Connor confirmed on his personal Instagram page that he is back with Newcastle United. He posted a picture of himself in the new kit with the caption “The kids [sic] back”.
The former Arsenal defender was at Newcastle for two years but he was released last summer. Since then, he has been nursing an ACL injury and this has prevented him from joining a new club.

But the 22-year-old is clearly back fit again as Newcastle have decided to bring him back. O’Connor has signed a short-term deal with the Magpies, according to The Chronicle.
O’Connor is yet to make his debut for the Newcastle first-team but he was a regular in the U23 side. His only previous first-team experience came with one Champions League game at Arsenal and loan spells with York City and MVV Maastricht.
TBR’s view
If O’Connor can make a full recovery from his ACL injury, he might be pushing for first-team spots. He is now at a stage in his career where he needs to be pushing to break into Steve Bruce’s side.
Newcastle have been unlucky with defensive injuries this season so O’Connor is an extra face at the back. He can also play in midfield, making him a useful option. This is a low-risk signing for Newcastle on a short-term contract.
