Newcastle United have received a boost in their quest to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.
That is according to 90min, which has reported how the former Leeds United midfielder views a potential move to St. James’ Park.
So, what is being reported about Newcastle United and Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, according to 90min, Newcastle United are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Premier League rivals Manchester City in the January transfer window.
Newcastle are reportedly “very keen” on Phillips and want him on a loan deal.
The report has noted that Newcastle “are emerging as Phillips’s preferred option should he leave the Etihad Stadium” in the middle of the season.
Liverpool have been linked with Phillips. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants him as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey.
Newcastle United should try to get a loan deal done for Kalvin Phillips
In my opinion, Newcastle United should do their utmost to get a loan deal done for Manchester City and England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
I believe that Phillips would be perfect for Newcastle on a loan deal for the second half of the season.
Yes, the Magpies would have to cover the midfielder’s £150,000-a-week wages (Spotrac) in full. And City might even ask for a loan fee for the £42 million (Sky Sports) star.

Maybe the defending Premier League and European champions could even want a performance-related clause in Phillips’s loan deal that would oblige Newcastle to make it permanent at the end of the season.
I believe that Newcastle should still sign Phillips. The midfielder is one of the best English players around and would replace the banned Sandro Tonali straightaway. Callum Wilson rates him highly.
True, the 27-year-old has failed to make a huge impact at City, but we saw when he was at Leeds just how good and combative he is in the middle of the park.
Phillips is also a regular in the England squad. At 27, Phillips’s best years are ahead of him, and I believe that Newcastle should bring him to St. James’ Park.
