Newcastle United must regret missing out on £1 million Javairo Dilrosun deal

In the summer a race was hotting up to sign Manchester City youngster Javairo Dilrosun. The Dutch talent joined City in 2014 from Ajax. However, he felt his first-team opportunities were slim at the Etihad Stadium and therefore decided he would not sign a new deal at the club. It is a similar situation to the one which saw Jadon Sancho leave City the summer before.

The Sun reported that Newcastle United were one of the teams keen on the player. He would have cost a £1 million compensation package and the likes of Benfica and Derby County were also keen.

In the end, much like Sancho again, he headed to Germany. The teenager joined Hertha Berlin in May for a deal reportedly worth £200,000.

Newcastle United will no doubt be wishing they had signed the player now. Again, like Sancho, Dilrosun has shown his quality away from City.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation in the Bundesliga. He has provided four assists and scored two goals in the German capital.

Such form did not go unnoticed. Again, with the risk of overusing the Sancho comparison, Dilrosun was called up to his national team. The winger made his Netherlands debut this month after being called up by Ronald Koeman.

Newcastle are currently in a good run of form. But there is no doubt they would love to have this young talent in their ranks.
