Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley dipped into his pockets during January to land Paraguay international Miguel Almiron.
The attacking midfielder signed for the Magpies from Atlanta United in a deal worth £16 million, according to The Chronicle.
Almiron made his debut for his new club during their 1-1 draw against Wolves and he looks set to be a big signing for the club and Rafa Benitez.
Some interesting news has emerged today, via the Chronicle.
According to the agent of the 25-year-old, Daniel Campo, Manchester United had expressed an interest in the player prior to his move to St. James’ Park.
This news will surely intrigue Newcastle supporters.
Many of the club’s long-suffering fans will know very little about Almiron.
The boy arrives in England on the back of a stunning season in the MLS, where he contributed 12 goals and 13 assists to Atlanta’s season.
The fact that the mighty Manchester United wanted to sign him perhaps adds more substance, however.
The Red Devils won’t have their scouting team looking at average players and that must delight those of a Newcastle persuasion.
Of course, the proof will be in the performances of Almiron.
These latest comments, however, will surely raise the excitement levels among Newcastle supporters.
