Newcastle United have struggled at the start of the season after another frustrating summer for Rafael Benitez under Mike Ashley.
The Magpies do have a number of players out on loan away from the first-team and we have rounded up how they faired in the latest round of fixtures.
Dwight Gayle – West Brom
Scored his first goal for the Baggies in a 7-1 mauling of QPR, tucking home after Kieran Gibbs’ cutback for West Brom’s fourth of the afternoon. After being an unused substitute for the Carabao Cup win over Luton Town, he was replaced after 83 minutes.
Jack Colback – Nottingham Forest
Played the entire 90 minutes of Forest’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Wigan but did not perform that well, earning a match rating of just 6.22 with Whoscored. Picked up a yellow card and did not feature in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Bury.
Josef Yarney – Morecambe
Yarney made his debut in the past week for the Shrimpers, playing 90 minutes of the Carabao Cup defeat to Preston and the 1-0 loss to Stevenage at the weekend. The 20-year-old defender was booked in the League Two clash.
