Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has named Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.

The Magpies made it nine goals from their last two league games at the weekend with a 5-1 win over Brentford.

Guimaraes opened the scoring for Eddie Howe’s side in the 21st minute, with Trippier providing the assist.

Just seven minutes later, Jacob Murphy made the most of a David Raya error to double the Magpies’ lead.

Though Newcastle dominated the first half, the visitors were quick out of the starting blocks after the interval.

They eventually halved the deficit through Ivan Toney, who scored a penalty awarded due to Dan Burn’s handball.

However, Newcastle soon restored their two-goal advantage, again through Guimaraes.

The January signing drove towards the edge of the box before drilling a great effort inside the near post.

Eight minutes from time, Newcastle added a fourth.

Miguel Almiron pounced on Ethan Pinnock’s poor backpass to round Raya and tap into the empty net.

Then, in the 88th minute, Pinnock scored an own goal to make it 5-1 to the Tyneside outfit.

While Guimaraes got most of the plaudits due to his brace, Trippier was also a worthy inclusion in the XI.

“Another skipper who led by example, setting up the opening goal with a superb cross,” Shearer wrote about the £12million star on the PL website.

Of Guimaraes, he said: “The Brazilian can do it all. Not content with running the match, he scored two brilliant goals.”

A team Newcastle fans can be proud of – TBR View

Trippier and Guimaraes joined Newcastle back when they were struggling last season, and helped them stay up comfortably.

This season, the Magpies have kicked on nicely, and the duo continue to stand out for Howe’s side.

After years of disappointment, it’s great that Newcastle fans can support a team challenging for glory.
