Newcastle United fans speculate that Elias Sorensen and Jamie Sterry have been recalled from their loan spells
Newcastle United’s under-23 team-sheet to face Leeds United last night contained two shock names: Elias Sorensen and Jamie Sterry.
Both players were sent out on loan in January; Sorensen moved to League One side Blackpool and Sterry joined Crewe Alexandra in League Two.
But the two Newcastle youngsters were in action for the academy side in the Premier League Cup loss against Leeds.
Newcastle’s youth players lost 3-1, although Sorensen did tee up Sterry for the Magpies’ goal.
Sorensen and Sterry’s presence in the under-23 team led to speculation from Newcastle fans suggesting they had both been recalled.
The Chronicle has since reported that Sorensen and Sterry returned for one game only. But the issue still remains.
Sorensen and Sterry are playing under-23 football for Newcastle because they are not featuring during their respective loan spells.
At Blackpool, Sorensen has made just one substitute appearance and has not made a match day squad for the last two weeks.
Meanwhile, Sterry is yet to play for Crewe since returning to Gresty Road on loan.
Below are some things Newcastle fans said after seeing Sorensen and Sterry playing for their under-23 outfit.
