Newcastle United fans react to Thiago Maia transfer rumours

Newcastle United have made an offer to sign Lille midfielder Thiago Maia, according to reports in France. As per Le10Sport, Lille have received an offer from Genoa for Maia but Newcastle have submitted a more lucrative bid.

Maia is a holding midfielder who joined Lille from Santos in 2017. He has made over 50 appearances for the Ligue 1 club and is a highly-rated young player. Newcastle are hoping to sign the 22-year-old before the deadline on Thursday.

Steve Bruce is weighing up his options as the clock ticks on the summer transfer window. If Maia joins, there could be an outgoing central midfielder.

Isaac Hayden is one candidate for the axe. He wants to move down south for family reasons but has been unable to complete a move this summer. Maia’s arrival could open the door for his exit.

Alternatively, the Brazilian midfielder’s potential move to Tyneside might allow Newcastle to axe Jack Colback or Henri Saivet. Or perhaps Matty Longstaff will be given a loan spell away.
