Newcastle United are reportedly in pole position to sign Inter Milan winger Valentino Lazaro this month despite the player being linked with a move to West Ham United earlier this week – and Toon fans have reacted on Twitter.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed on his personal website that Newcastle are winning the race for the 28-time Austria international, who only joined Inter in the summer from German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.
Lazaro, 23, cost Inter £20million in the summer but the former RedBull Salzburg star has only managed 11 appearances under Antonio Conte this season in all competitions. With Inter bringing in plenty of star talent this month, he is likely to leave.
The Toon are in need of a winger, with Allan Saint-Maximin’s injury underlining a distinct lack of strength-in-depth under Steve Bruce. Matt Ritchie has also been injured, while Christian Atsu is far beneath the player he was.
Lazaro has been targeted as a possible signing and Newcastle are winning the race for Lazaro. It is believed talks have started “very well” between the two clubs over a move for the versatile ace – who can play both sides of the defence and midfield.
Newcastle United supporters caught wind of the reported news that their club are winning the race for Inter star Lazaro – despite West Ham being linked this week, as per FC Inter News – and have reacted on Twitter.
Watching highlights of him he’s skilful and has a monster cross

He’s decent but can’t see how he’s a priority unless someone’s leaving at RB/RW

Random, played well in the Coppa Italia this week, perhaps Conte sees Young as a RB rather than a LB… also got Candreva to cover there. Lazaro would be a good signing for NUFC!

Looks to be playing RWB in some of those games. Could be an option there, but doubt he's going to replace Almiron or ASM
