Newcastle United fans react as club linked with RB Leipzig man Julian Nagelsmann

Guillem Balague has claimed on his official YouTube channel that Newcastle United’s prospective owners hoping to lure RB Leipzig’s highly-rated manager Julian Nagelsmann to Tyneside this summer – and Toon fans have responded.

Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of managers – seven in total – since reports of a takeover surfaced. Rafa Benitez, Mauricio Pochettino, Max Allegri, Lucien Favre, Jorge Jesus, Andre Villas-Boas and Luciano Spalletti are all linked.

Now, Nagelsmann is the latest name to be linked – after starring as manager of Leipzig. Still only 32 years of age, Nagelsmann has kept Leipzig in the Champions League after his side beat Tottenham, while his side firmly remain in a title challenge.

Balague, who is renowned for his inside knowledge – especially when it comes to Spanish football – has stated that Pochettino, Benitez, Allegri and Nagelsmann are on the table, but that the young German boss is happy in Germany.

“What I know for sure is that Pochettino, Rafa Benitez and Allegri are the three names on the table for Newcastle. They want to convince one of them or Nagelsmann. Of course, ambitious as they are, they want one of those four,” Balague said.

“I believe Rafa Benitez hasn’t got a call yet. He’s [Pochettino] aware of the story, he’s aware of the interest – that’s as far as I would say. In the case of Allegri, ambitious but without Premier League experience. Nagelsmann is very happy in Germany.”

Nagelsmann has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham said to have been considering him before appointing Jose Mourinho. Indeed, he could also prove to be a long-term replacement for Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp.

Newcastle supporters have reacted to reports that Nagelsmann could move to Tyneside, though, and many feel he would be a stunning appointment.
