Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has reportedly become a target for Newcastle United this summer as The Toon look to replace Rafa Benitez – and Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter.

The Telegraph claimed on Wednesday that both Steven Gerrard and OGC Nice manager Patrick Vieira are being considered for the vacant role at Newcastle. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is also being considered.

However, the latter is unlikely to leave the Cherries. Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce and Burnley boss Sean Dyche are being considered back-up options, but Gerrard is said to be at the top of the list.

Gerrard, 39, has impressed in his first season of management at Rangers, taking the Gers to the Europa League group stage and finishing second behind Celtic – as well as beating their Old Firm enemies twice.

While it seems there is unfinished business for Gerrard at Rangers this summer, his excellent work has not gone unnoticed – with his acumen in the transfer market on a small budget also likely to be noticed by Newcastle.

Newcastle fans reacted to the news that Gerrard could replace his old Liverpool manager Benitez, with some of the belief that the ex-England international would be a solid signing.

Others do not think Gerrard will work for Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, given the connections Ashley has with Rangers.
