It is the time of the year when plenty of players are told they will have to find another home. Contracts are expiring and clubs are getting their houses in order for the summer market and potential new recruits.

One player leaving Newcastle United appears to be Cal Roberts.

He confirmed he was on his way out of St James’ Park on his official Twitter account this week:

The 22-year-old former England under-20 international had a loan spell at Colchester United this season which did not go to plan, being released less than two months into his spell.

However, it has actually been an excellent season for him at Newcastle United.

He scored 13 goals in 22 games for the Newcastle under-23 side and even scored his first goal for the first-team, as Newcastle lost to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup.

Considering the impact Sean Longstaff made this season it is a surprise that Newcastle have decided to move Roberts on.

Reports in Greece from SDNA have suggested Panathinaikos are keen on the player along with several Championship clubs. Considering his form for the under-23s, that makes sense. Some Newcastle fans are certainly disappointed to see him leave the club. Hopefully, it will not come back to bite them in the long-run.
