Cenk Tosun made his debut for Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon against Arsenal after joining the Eagles from Everton on loan, but reports have claimed he was offered to Newcastle before his Palace move – and Toon fans have responded on Twitter.
Sam Allardyce brought 28-year-old striker Tosun to Goodison Park in January 2018 from Besiktas for a whopping £27million (Telegraph), but since then, the Turkish ace has netted just 10 goals in 51 league and cup appearances for Everton.
It saw the Turkey international move to Palace on loan earlier this month, with the powerful striker looking to show Turkey chiefs why he deserves a place in their Euro 2020 squad. At Everton, he was not getting the required game time.
Tosun chose to move on loan, then, but it could have been a move north instead of south. The Daily Star claims that Tosun was offered to Steve Bruce and Newcastle, but the Toon manager opted to reject a move to Newcastle for the striker.
Newcastle need a striker, given Dwight Gayle is expected to leave this month and Joelinton is struggling to live up to his £40million price tag. The Brazilian has scored just once, in a 1-0 win over Tottenham, while Andy Carroll is yet to find the net.
Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Tosun was offered to their side but a move was blocked by Bruce, and many feel he would have been a good signing given that he is better than what they currently have.
Over no one? Yes!

He's better than what he have, that's the yardstick isn't it? Unless they have someone better lined up

Better option than we have, Gayle championship level, Joe Linton struggling full stop, Carroll fitness issues. Was worth a punt.

Can't believe that

Begs the question – does Bruce not think Tosun will score more than the one goal Joelinton has?
Bruce has a VERY low bar when it comes to improving the squad.
Stinks of Ashley austerity and Bruce being the mouth piece

To say Tosun wouldn't improve the squad is short sighted by Bruce. Sometimes you have to wonder what Bruce is doing/trying to achieve
